Group Meetings

We focused in this meeting entirely on deciding what to do within the music video. As they are a pub and wedding band, we decided to go back to that and set it in a wedding. We thought that this would then give the potential customers a real idea of what the day would be like if they booked Group Therapy for their wedding.
Ian had told us that he would look into booking the Peppercorns theatre in St Neots to use as our venue, and therefore, we knew that we would have a stage and eating design, which could clash with our idea.

We agreed to meet the next day for another meeting.
When the meeting began, we all had worries about the wedding idea (costumes, props and actors) Ian had sent a e-mail saying that he did not like the costume ideas (black trousers, back shirts and white ties) because they also target pubs and so specifically doing it for a wedding audience excludes this.

Change of location

After Group therapy decided they no longer wanted to perform at The Peppercorns Theatre, we had to initiate plan b which was to use Sawtry Community College hall. We would still film on Sunday 23rd January and the band would be arriving at 10am. This was confirmed via an e-mail from Ian.

Feedback

After having the feedback sheets given to me from my blog presentation it was clear the main improvement for my blog was to upload my preliminary task, doing this the next improvements suggested from my media class was:
Pictures of decided location- After having a change of location to Sawtry Commuinity College hall these pictures will be presented within my recce pack in which will be on the blog.

More detail on Target Audience- I will do further research on similar bands and who in detail is the target audience of Group Therapy.

Group Meeting 10/1/11

Today Alex, Fran, Megan and myself met for an hour after our media lesson to discuss certain points.
We discussed the location, who's doing what on the day of filming, how we are getting there, what we need to tell Group Therapy, clothing and equipment needed.

We e-mailed Ian to ask if he had received anything from the Peppercorn Theatre and what the designer wants the band to wear.

We decided the band should wear black shirts with white ties. This is quite simple yet effective for the image we want to portray of the band. We want them to come across as professional yet stylish for their age and target audience.I have worked closely with the designer as I will be taking the pictures of the band for the poster and album cover therefore we both need to agree what looks good and effective - especially as the designer is not going to be at the day of filming.
I have decided that the album cover is going to be similar to "The Dead Beats" in the respect that they are in a specific order of screen time and position within the band and their costume. The new Group Therapy logo will be centered at the bottom. We have also asked the lead singer of the band to wear a red coloured tie, which will stand out and be in colour on the album cover against the black and white background.

I have the responsibility on the filming day to take pictures for the promotional stills, operate one camera and take part in the behind the scenes footage. I will also help set up but being the technical person, the post production is where I will be doing all of the work.

By the next time we meet, I decided that Fran should be storyboarding for each camera (there is 4), Alex would produce the production schedule, Megan would come up with a set design and definite costumes. I will help with the storyboards as being the editor, I can help Fran and give her ideas which i think will work effectively in post production.
Today Fran and I decided and booked the cameras and other equipment for the day of filming.

Album cover research

This is the original band that sung Make Me Smile (Come Up and See Me)'s album cover.

This is a band that performs at wedding's album cover.

The common theme here is that there are all members of the band within the picture of the album cover with their logo or name. I quite like the black and white affect, it shows that they are all professional and quite simple, which is eye catching. The order that they are standing in is very important as the lead singer is at the front then other vocals, guitarists, drums and then other instruments. It is hard to tell what genre specifically they are but it gives shuttle hints with their smart black shirts and white ties, they are also all wearing the same thing. this shows social commodity within the band which their target audience will admire.

Location

Peppercorns Mucis Academy and theatre

"Peppercorns is a Music School and Theatre Company based in St Neots, founded in 1983 by Steve and Caroline Muzolf. We pride ourselves on producing completely original and wonderfully spectacular shows. There is no one else quite like us.

Peppercorns are also interested in supporting any Good Causes, particularly those involving children. In 1994 Steve wrote his first stage musical EDEN!. He remembers how difficult it was and the huge financial risks he and Caroline took to get the theatre company off the ground."

www.peppercornseden.org.uk

This location is ideal as Group Therapy is from St Neots, and the Peppercorns Theatre is based there. Also transport for us is not to much os an issue as 2 out of 4 memebers of the group are willing to drive.

We still need to contact them to hire it out, hopefully free of charge, they have their details on their website:

Problems occured

We had Group Therapy's telephone numbers and e-mail, with Ian having a day time job, he was not around to reply immediately. Ultimately we struggled to find a date within the deadline (21st January 2011) to fit as all. Ian from group Therapy is also in another band. We then decided with approval from our Executive Producer and our teacher, members from the band and my group and another group (the unknown band- now The Harmonettes) would film in the same location on the same day - 23rd January
This has positive and negative effects for us, the other group will be able to help us film and vice versa. We also decided as a group that we would film in the morning and the other group would film after. This may be time saving as the other group won't have to set up again, just adjust the equipment already there.
Another worrying matter within the group was our budget of £0!
We needed to design a set, use props and clothing on no budget at all. We have worked our way around this by asking the band members to wear certain clothes they hopefully have.
The location we are using is new, so it won't looked run down at all. At the moment our initial idea is to have our band performing at a wedding, this is very realistic and will portray a certain image that Group Therapy can show their potential customers and they will see they are serious about wedding functions.

18th January

After finding out by Ian on the telephone that the band no longer wanted to perform at The Peppercorns Theatre, this raised a new issue of location. We then decided to switch our location to Sawtry Community College hall. We would still use Sunday 23rd January to film and after confirmation from Ian, they would be there at 10am. A problem that also occurred was trying to get permission to open the school on a Sunday. We have filled out a blue form taken from the office to book out the hall on a Sunday, our media teacher and executive producer would also have to be here on the day of filming.
We also found out today that Alex (producer) who is also filming the behind the scenes footage would not be attending the day of filming as she had not been able to get the time of her part-time job.
This left myself and Fran to man cameras, operate the lighting, take promotional stills, take photographs for the album cover and poster, film behind the scenes and film an interview with the band member in a very short amount of time.
